Our Journey

Preserving Faith & Community

01

Early Bosnian Migration

The Bosnian Muslim community in Adelaide traces its roots back to the 1950s, when Bosniaks arrived in Australia seeking safety and a better future. Despite being few in number, they gathered to uphold their faith, culture, and traditions, strengthening their bond through communal prayers and social gatherings.

02

Establishing Our Mosque & Community

In 1991, the Bosnian-Herzegovinian Muslim Society was founded with the purchase of a dedicated community space at 1 Frederick Road, Royal Park. This milestone was made possible by generous contributions from Bosniak families and supporters, including a $100,000 donation from Datuk Taib Bin Mahmud, former Prime Minister of Sarawak, Malaysia.

03

Growth & Legacy

In 2003, the Association of Bosniaks of South Australia – Bosnian Mosque Adelaide was established. Over the years, the community has grown, expanding religious activities, establishing a Bosnian language school, hosting Ramadan imams and scholars, and organizing community events, including the Srebrenica Genocide Remembrance. Today, the congregation consists of over 180 families, committed to faith, education, and unity.

What Our Community Says

One of the best mosques I've been to. When I say best, I mean the cleanliness, presentation, and above all, the Friday Khutba is in three languages. Arabic, English & Bosnian. Now a days, Friday prayer is at 1405
